RULES OF ENTRY FOR FLASH FICTION
- Closing date each year: 31st July
- Maximum Word Count: 500
- Entry Fee: £5 per story, £12 for 3, £18 for 5, £25 for 7 - you can enter short stories and flash fiction at the same time
- The theme is open, with no link to Scotland needed by either entrant or theme
- We enjoy both conventional and unusual story lines, and positively encourage the latter
- Stories must not have been previously published or won earlier awards
- A long list will be posted on the website at the start of October, a short list by the middle of October and the winner announced on 1st November
- This is a competition for amateur writers, meaning people who don't earn their living from writing and who are not professionally published in any major capacity; if in doubt please contact us before entering
- Please do not put your name on the story itself, but include contact details in the covering email or letter
- Word.docs are the preferred format for attachments, or you can send your story in the body of the email
- All entries should be single-sided & double-spaced, using a plain 12 point font
- If sending by post, please use paperclips not staples
- PLEASE NOTE: please pay using the PAYPAL facility before sending your attachments; if sending by post you can pay either by PAYPAL (send the reference number with your story) or cheque made out to HISSAC
